Welcome to Pyrais' Place, my small sliver of the cyberspace. I am a computer geek who now is out of the field and working
so that I can pay the bills and work on my writing. The following website is not only focused on my writing but also my
personal life and my old professional life
Right now the focus is to organize and have my writing on-line. Over the next little while I will expand the personal and professional areas of this ever-growing and ever-evolving website.
My goal is not just to highlight my writing but to also provide a site with resources, be it on things Celtic, beer or gay. At the same time, even though I am not currently actively in the computer field, my interests in user interfaces and information visualization has not flagged.
Orginally I was going to use this little space to voice my opinions but since March 2006, my blog has let me have that outlet. So if you want to hear my rants and raves, click here to check out my blog.
I have ambitious plans for this place. That is why I named it after one of my favorite characters that a developed named Pyrais. He is an eccentric lavendar dragon who does chronospatial sculptures. Since chronospatial sculptures are sculptures that span time and space, he sees everything around him as part of his creation. Yet he does not see himself as God. I suppose that is the essence of any creator, be it a writer, painter or songwriter. More on him can be found in the Writing section.
And now some details about Louis C. Vroomen: I am 49 years old. I don't look or act my age. Physically people think I look in my late thirties yet mentally and emotionally, I would be more in my early twenties. And some would say I am even younger than that. Thing is, I believe you are as old as you think.
I am a computer geek who did some major research in speech understanding, user interface and information visualization. But because of various whacks in the head and kicks in the balls, I have not been in the field since 2001. The past few years I have been slowly rebuilding my life. At the same time, I am considering where my life is leading me and would like to focus on my writing. My passion for research and development is gone except for small personal projects I am doing for myself.
The past few years have afforded me a unique view of the world. My journey, be it intellectual or spiritual, veered in directions I had not expected. Excluding having a major affect on my writing, it has reoriented many of my views of the world. More on these adentures will be posted on my personal section of the website.
So sit back and explore. I hope this site has a little for everyone!
